Mount Wachusett Community College celebrated this year’s Week of the Young Child with activities, a movie and other special events.

The annual event took place this year between April 8 and the 12. It is organized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to spotlight early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. However, local organizations and institutions coordinate their own events and activities.

MWCC participated this year, led by the school’s education division, with activities for children at the Garrison Center for Early Childhood Education, which is an on-site childcare facility that also serves as a learning environment for some MWCC education students. A screening of “No Small Matter” for the adults who care for children and families and a family evening at the center drew approximately 15 people from the community.

MWCC President James Vander Hooven capped off the week with a visit to the Garrison Center to read a book to the children.
