WIND ENERGY
Mount Wachusett Community College recently purchased a 50 meter meteorological tower from Second Wind, Inc. to assess the wind resource at the College. Students will be able to use this equipment as a component of the three new renewable energy courses. We will soon have a link on this webpage for real-time viewing of the frequency of wind occurence, wind speed distribution, daily variations, and the expected energy output of a wind turbine based upon the wind data collected. This wind assessment project is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Sustainability Program. For more information on wind energy, see the Community Wind Fact Sheet developed by the Renewable Energy Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Or visit their website for other wind energy fact sheets.
Anchors were driven into the ground with the help of the Templeton Municipal Light Company. Construction of the tower was performed by the Renewable Energy Reseach Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts.
