Meet Medical Assisting alumna Andrea Sargent!

Andrea Sargent, CMA (Certified Medical Assistant)
Year of graduation: 2000
Employment: Medical assistant at Acton Medical Associates, PC
Program of study: Medical Assisting

Why did you choose to study Medical Assisting?

I was interested in the medical field but didn’t quite know what I wanted to study. I decided on Medical Assisting for many reasons. The combination of clerical and clinical responsibilities associated with the career gave me options; if I didn’t like one aspect, I could always pursue the other.

Why MWCC’s Medical Assisting program?

Because the program is accredited, I could take the certification exam to become a certified medical assistant. Also, MWCC’s program is very well organized. The first half concentrates on the clerical portion and the second half on the clinical. The class sizes are small and you receive personal attention and hands-on training.

Why did you choose to continue your education?

I made the decision after being laid off. I always wanted to work in the medical field.

What have been the benefits of continuing your education?

Happiness in my life. I love my job. Also, I was able to work while continuing my education.

How long did it take you to complete your degree?

I transferred in some credits from previous college experience. Taking three to four courses per semester, it took me two years.

Would you suggest the Medical Assisting Degree to others?

I highly recommend the Medical Assisting program for anyone seeking employment in the medical field.
