Our Mission
To improve the
utilization of the renewable forest resource of Massachusetts for enhanced
productivity and quality of life for its citizenry by:
- Promoting the effective stewardship of the public and private forests
of the Commonwealth;
- Assisting private enterprise in the creation, maintenance, expansion,
and marketing of forest products, including underutilized materials;
- Promoting and demonstrating the role of forest biomass as a sustainable
renewable energy source addressing the concerns of air quality, greenhouse
emissions, and forest management practices;
- Providing education in the skills and technologies relevant to the
creation, maintenance, and improvement of a forest products industry
which is competitive in a global economy;
- Providing educational opportunities and promoting public awareness
that addresses the issue of the balance of forest management and utilization
as a means of sustaining forest resources.
The Forest and Wood Products Advisory Board
An eighteen-member Advisory Board guides the efforts
of the Institute. The Board
meets quarterly to review progress and discuss topics of current interest.
Through its Advisory Board, the Institute coordinates its efforts with
a number of agencies and organizations including: The
Department of Conservation & Recreation, The U. S. Forest Service, The Massachusetts Wood Producers Association, and The Wood Products
Manufacturers Association.
