FIFTH ANNUAL NEW ENGLAND

STUDENT WOODWORKING DESIGN COMPETITION 2008

 

General Rules:

The New England Student Woodworking Design Competition is open to students enrolled in high school woodworking classes in a vocational or academic school system in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The judges will evaluate each project based on the following criteria:

- A design too large for a 30"x72" display table will be placed on the floor. These designs must occupy a footprint space of less than 26 square feet (e.g., a 48" round table has a footprint size of 16 square feet).
- As we learned from other competitions, size is not a factor in the judging.
- The design may incorporate any material, but must include at least 50% visible wood products materials.

- The design shall be functional for use in home or business.

- The design shall have attached sketches, drawings, and/or blueprints.

- Woodworking skills: machining & sanding.
- Quality of applied finish: stain, topcoat, etc.

Registration Requirements:
- A registrant shall enter only one design. A school may have more than one registrant.
- A pre-registration must be submitted for each registrant and school by April 25, 2008.

ANNOUNCING
THE FIFTH ANNUAL
NEW ENGLAND STUDENT WOODWORKING DESIGN COMPETITION

Its mission is to create an atmosphere of healthy competition among high school woodworking students in a vocational or academic school system in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

It is also our intent to involve the woodworking industry through sponsorship and judging of this competition and future employment consideration of these gifted woodworkers.

 

JUDGING

Judging will be performed by an independent panel of three or more judges, experts in furniture & architectural design.

DISPLAY
The designs will be displayed at Mount Wachusett Community College during the week of May 27-30, 2008. Projects must be brought to the college on May 27 or by mutual arrangement.

PRIZES

Cash awards, prizes & gift certificates will be provided to the winning students through the generosity of our sponsors. Instructors, parents, and students are urged to contact sponsors and ask for support. "The more we get, the more we give."

 

AWARDS  NIGHT

The Awards Ceremony will be held on May 30, 2008 at 7pm in the MWCC Fine Arts Gallery. Entrants and their families, friends, teachers, and sponsors are all invited.
