(GARDNER)– Mount Wachusett Community College will host the 14^th Annual Girls’ High School Basketball Tournament, Sat., Feb. 16, through Thurs., Feb. 21, at the College’s Fitness and Wellness Center. (See attached schedule). One scholarship will be awarded to a player on each team. Last year, 16 scholarships worth $450 each were awarded to players.

When the tournament began thirteen years ago, only four teams participated. This year, 16 teams–four times as many as the first tournament–will participate: Auburn, Bartlett (Webster), Bromfield, Gardner, Littleton, Lunenburg, Murdock, Nashoba, North Middlesex, Narragansett, Notre Dame Academy (Worcester), Quabbin, St. Bernards, St. Peter-Marian, Sutton and Tantasqua, (Sturbridge).

"We’re proud to be able to offer this tournament, both as a way for the athletes to compete and showcase their talents, but also to make scholarships available to participants," said tournament organizer, Mount Community College Dean of Student Services, Peter Trainor.
