Tunefoolery

Tunefoolery is a unique and courageous group of over 50 musicians with psychiatric disabilities who play and perform music as a way towards healing and recovery. We will have two members form the group Ramblin’ Dan & Trudi Goodman performing and educating us on the talents and vast capabilities of people with psychiatric disabilities. In Awareness of Disabilities Awareness month. Sponsored by the Student Life Office & Office of Students with Disabilities.

Pioneering Voices Exhibit

Oct. 5-16; Leo & Theresa LaChance Library MWCC
Mon. - Thurs. 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM, Fri. 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; Oct. 16th closes at 12 PM; Celebration of GLBT Awareness Month.
Pioneering Voices is a museum-quality traveling exhibit including photographs and interviews with people of all ages who are transgender and some of their partners and children. Through first-person accounts and positive images, this exhibit seeks to challenge damaging myths and stereotypes about transgender people and to educate people about this marginalized, and often invisible group of people. Sponsored by the North Central Alliance, Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Student Life Office.

TransAmerica

This movie is held in celebration of GLBT Awareness Month. Event open to all.
Stanley is a perfectly adjusted, conservative trans-sexual who’s about to take the final step to becoming Bree, the woman he always wanted to be - until he finds out that he is the parent of a long-lost 17 year old son. Afraid to tell the rebellious teenager the truth, he embarks on a journey with him that will challenge and change both their lives. Sponsored by the North Central Alliance, Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Student Life Office & MWCC Diversity Committee.

Empty Place at the Table

Oct. 13-16, Upper Commons Area
A display that commemorates the lives lost in Massachusetts over the past year as a result of domestic violence. The display was created by Battered Women’s Resources, Inc., of Leominster and consists of a formal dining room table set up with 2 plates for each victim, one with a name and the other with a brief description of the murder. This event is in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month which is October. Sponsored by the Student Life Office.

Milk

This movie is held in celebration of GLBT Awareness Month. Event open to all.
His life changed history. His courage changed lives. In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into public office in America. Sponsored by the North Central Alliance, Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Student Life Office & MWCC Diversity Committee.

Corn Husk Doll History & Craft Demonstration by Loril Moondream

Wed., Nov. 18; Lion’s Den Student Center; 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
In celebration of National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. A White Mountain Apache from New Mexico, Loril is often called upon to perform traditional and contemporary native music and to share her stories at ceremonies, pow-wows, and for the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness, an organization associated with the commissioner’s office for American Indian Affairs in Massachusetts.

Boys on the Side

Tues., Dec. 1; Two Showings: 12:30 PM & 4:00 PM, North Café
This movie is held in awareness of World AIDS Day which is December 1st world wide. Event open to all.
The story of three women, one dying of AIDS, who share a car trip across the country. Each has memories she’d like to forget and circumstances she’d like to change. Over the course of their trip, they become friends, joining together to form a makeshift family. Sponsored by the North Central Alliance, Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Student Life Office & MWCC Diversity Committee.
