CSCT 390 / Intro to Computers: 1st Time User
For the true beginner. Start with a tour through operating the hardware including using the keyboard, mouse skills, disks, printers and more. Learn the basics of working in Microsoft Windows. Explore the start menu. Understand the desktop. Become familiar with folders and file management using “My Computer.” Get your first exposure to cyberspace including the Internet and the World Wide Web, browsers, search engines, and email. This is a highly interactive course where students learn by doing with instructor-led hands on exercises. Interaction is always encouraged!
CSCT 391 Intro to Computers: Novice User
Designed for the new user who has spent some time with PCs. Use Windows accessories to manage PC housekeeping tasks. Learn how to configure and buy your PC. Understand the control panel to customize the user interface including mouse activities, display screen settings and removing software. Learn basic troubleshooting, fundamentals of Microsoft Office, and how to protect your PC locally and in cyberspace. Download and install software from the web. Discover the necessities of your computer’s health including temperature, power and backup strategies. Bring your questions and PC problems with you.

Learn user interface including menus & toolbars. Create, edit and save documents. Select text, cut, copy and paste contents. Use autocomplete, autotext, spellcheck, grammer check and find & replace, as well as formatting features such as font, format, style and paragraphs. CSCT 380 Overview of Office 2007
Take a tour through the latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Excel. The new graphical user interface, called office fluent, has been modified to create a more effective platform for users of all levels. The major features of the new interface that will be explored include: the ribbon; the office button, which brings together the capabilities of the Microsoft Office system into a single entry point in the user interface; contextual tabs that enhance floating toolbars by only appearing when they are needed and make it much easier to find and use commands; and office fluent galleries, which present a simple set of potential results, rather than a complex dialog box with numerous options.

Learn to surf the web. Learn the difference between a web page, website, web address, and links. Discover helpful sites for searching the Internet on traveling, news, weather, driving directions/maps, and finding phone numbers. You will set up an Internet email account and learn the etiquette of sending email.

Learn to manage emails you send and receive and how to file them. Learn the different ways to add attachments/files to your messages. Keeping track of your personal and business contacts, creating a task with due date reminders, calendar management, setting up appointments, and inviting attendees will be covered.
