An introduction to drugs commonly abused in our community. This workshop will cover the pharmacology and epidemiology of drugs and alcohol. It is recommended for those interested in becoming drug counselors, mental health counselors, or social workers. It also may be of interest to parents who wish to stay informed about drugs, staying one step ahead of their teenagers. 6 CEUs

CSPD 718 Methamphetamine

Methamphetamine is the next drug of abuse to arrive in our community. This workshop covers the history of methamphetamine, methods of use, how it is made, the effects on the brain, the physical effects, the sexual risks, STIs, HIV, and Hepatitis C. The workshop is intended for mental health/substance abuse professionals, public safety and law enforcement professionals, medical providers, and child welfare social workers; and for those interested in becoming mental health/substance abuse professionals, or social workers. 6 CEUs.

CSPD 753 Disaster Behavioral Health Counseling

Identify skills and learn methods of intervention to “normalize” reactions, validate and affirm experience, and offer practical assistance to those affected by disaster trauma. This course includes: disaster types; crisis counseling skills; psychological first aid; autonomic, physical, psychological, and cognitive responses to trauma; cultural considerations; social, familial, communal, and economic impacts of disaster; and phases from impact to reconstruction.
