The LaChance Library has been authorized by the Student Government Association to act as its agent in collecting fines for overdue library materials. The money is deposited in the Student Activity Fund and reserved for the use of the library for replacement of lost books, etc. Overdue fines for Library materials accrue at $.05 per day, with a maximum fine of $2.00 per item. One exception to this policy is materials from the Reserve collection, which accrue fines of $.25 per day, with a maximum of $2.00 per item. The first overdue notice is generated two weeks after the due date, and a final notice is generated four weeks after the due date, with the final notice being a bill for the cost of replacement. The bill states the replacement cost for each item as is indicated on the record for the item – if no cost is indicated on the record for an item, the default replacement cost is $28.00 per item. Replacement costs for books from the Recreational Paperback Collection are the cover price for the item, or they can be replaced with a comparable paperback book. Exceptions to the replacement policy will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. MWCC students who receive bills for Library materials will have their school records BLOCKED – transcripts, grades, and/or diplomas will be held until the material is either returned or replaced. Students will not be allowed to register for the following semester if their record has been blocked. .
