“My overall educational experience there was absolutely wonderful. In fact, it has forever changed my life for the better.”

Sharon Tibbetts

Class of 1990

Success comes in many forms. For Sharon Tibbetts, that meant excelling at Mount Wachusett Community College as well as being a mother of two small children. She made the President’s List each semester, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, as she worked on her Computer Information Systems degree.

“Though I went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I came to realize that everything I needed to know to become successful I had learned while at The Mount,” Tibbetts said.

She credits the “many wonderful teachers at the Mount” for setting her on a path to success. “My overall educational experience there was absolutely wonderful. In fact, it has forever changed my life for the better,” she said.

Then-Professor Carl Tammi is the most memorable. “I remember how he cautioned us, during a particularly difficult technology class, that when he was getting his education he had seen ‘plenty of smart guys fall by the wayside’ because they had decided to avoid a difficult course rather than risk failure,” Tibbetts recalled. “According to Professor Tammi, he would ‘hang on like a dog with a piece of meat,’ and tough it out. He didn’t always get an ‘A’, but he always passed.”

“I never forgot those words,” she said. “I've remembered them whenever I've had a difficult time with something. They always carry me through.”

After graduating from MWCC in 1990, she went on to earn a B.S.B.A. in 1994 and an MBA in 1997 from Fitchburg State College. She and her family moved from Winchendon to outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. She has worked as an independent consultant for IBM, Global Core Strategies, CIS Americas, Inc. and other corporations.
